Expert summary
James Bond is a fictional character created by Ian Fleming in the 1950s. The character is a British spy for MI6. Bond's heritage is Scottish and Swiss while his background is that of a naval seaman who rose to the rank of Commander. His role is that of the exciting action hero who is simultaneously a lover of both women and carousing. The character first appeared in Flemings 1953 novel, Casino Royale, and Fleming went on to publish eleven more novels and two short story collections about the character. The stories continued to be written after Flemings death in 1964. The Bond series went on to inspire a massive franchise which includes multiple books, films, video games and even music.
